As we celebrate our freedom, let us not forget to thank all those who have fought for this country to give us this day. When was the First 4th of July? On July 8, 1776, the first public readings of the Declaration were held in Philadelphia’s Independence Square to the ringing of bells and band music. One year later, on July 4, 1777, Philadelphia marked Independence Day by adjourning Congress and celebrating with bonfires, bells and fireworks. Have a glorious and safe 4th of July Holiday!

Factoid: Who started the 4th of July as a holiday? The 4th of July was celebrated as our Independence Day in 1777. John Adams predicted in a letter to his wife Abigail that Americans would celebrate their Independence Day on July 2. Off by two days — not too bad for government work!
